Silver Street Elementary School
Silver Street Elementary School was located at 2023 Ekin Avenue.
It opened on September 11, 1916. This school served many purposes throughout the years. 1937 The American Red Cross used it to provide assistance to the flood victims. It was also a distribution center for badly needed items such as coal.
Mr. Hutchinson kept bee hives on the roof and served their honey to the kids at lunch.
On March 2, 2007 President George W. Bush visited this school to commend the faulty and students for their academic success and testing scores.
The school closed in 2016.
